The Spring Sun: What I'm Doing For My Skin This Season

Spring is here, which means more sun, more energy and summer ahead! After months of cold and limited time outside, my skin is in need of some support.

I'll notice my skin become a little more sensitive this time of year, maybe more redness or just feeling off. But here's the thing, I'm not panicking about what it looks like, I know it's just my body telling me it's time to shift. I'm focusing on what's going to support it from the inside out - while the season shifts, so do my habits and how I support myself. So here's what I'm doing - and not doing:

1- More light means time to Follow the Sun (yes like that Xavier Rudd song)

With more sunlight, it's time for to adapt my own internal clock and get out in the sun within 30 mins of waking up. I step outside – even if it’s just for a few minutes, in direct sunlight. That early morning sun isn’t just gentle on the skin – it’s also a powerful way to support your body’s natural rhythm. When you get that first hit of sunlight, you’re signaling to your brain that it’s time to wake up. This helps regulate your circadian rhythm, balancing your hormones and setting the stage for better sleep later on (all of which we know helps our skin - less breakouts, more healing happening over night, less UV damage).

2- My life is my skincare

For real though, skincare isn't just about what you put on your skin - it's how you live your life. (pssst: don't worry I wont start sharing 100 tips you need to implement that feels unrealistic)

How you support yourself on the daily and your daily habits, dictates how your skin adapts, heals, becomes stronger (or weakens) - no pressure k? You won't see me pretending to be perfect like I'm not snacking on some chips at night cause I feel like it. Balance baby!

What I notice in spring is that I have more energy, so I move more. Mostly outside, in the morning, and afternoon. I usually spend a little less time outside mid-day, as my body is getting used to the sun again. Follow your internal guide, your intuition, do what feels right.

More movement and sun also means I need more hydration - I focus on drinking water with homemade or store-bought electrolytes (I like the Just Ingredients one). You can also add some lime and quality sea salt to your water. Eating fruits is a great way to stay hydrated too, or drinking coconut water.

I also notice that I am no longer craving hearty meals, but switching to lighter meals, maybe more often, choosing in season fruits and veg. If organic is crazy priced (which lately it has been), just soak your produce in water with baking soda for 15 mins, it gets rid of a lot of the pesticides and herbicides.

Foods that support our skin internally: grass-fed meat and organs, sardines (make fish cakes with them, it's sooo good), eggs, avocado, berries.

3- I use ingredients that help my skin to adapt to the sun

You'll catch me using my brightening serum morning and night, because of its anti-inflammatory properties and how it supports my skin for UV exposure. Specifically because it contains Emu oil and Pomegranate Seed CO2 Extract, two ingredients I added to the serum to repair damage, and support healing.

I use the nourishing balm as an after-sun support on me, my 4 year old daughter and my husband also loves it. In winter, I used the balm morning and night because my skin needed lathering, but with spring and summer, at night time is all I need.

That's it. Simple. Nourishing.

For me, this shift into Spring feels energizing, and is focused less on "looks" and more on doing what feels good for me. So maybe for you, it looks a bit different - and that's great too. We all get to listen to our own internal nudges, and hopefully this gave you support to do exactly that. You deserve to feel good, through all the seasons.

Sending love,

Laurence
